Singulair
Singulair (montelukast) is a medicine classified as a leukotriene inhibitor and used to prevent attacks of asthma in adults and children older than 12. Another way it can be used is to relieve the most bothersome symptoms of allergies – such as runny nose and sneezing. If you are using this drug for asthma relief, you need to know that Singulair is not going to stop an acute attack of asthma already in progress – for that purpose you will have to get yourself a fast-acting medicine tat you will be able to carry around. Asthma can be also treatment with a combination of drugs rather than just one. Make sure you use Singular is directed and combine it only with the medicines your doctor approved. You may not feel the full benefits of taking Singulair until a few weeks pass – it’s therefore important that you keep taking this medication regularly without missing your doses. Although you can always take the dose you missed as soon as you remember about it, there is a case when you are not supposed to do it. If it is almost time to take another dose – the best thing to do is skip the dose missed. Never take a double dose instead. Taking a double dose, unlike many people tend to think, is not likely to improve the situation and may result in a number of side effects. If you think you need to use this or some other medicine more often that every 24 hours - contact your doctor but do not make any decisions based on your own judgment. The following serious side effects are sometimes reported by people using this medication: suicidal thoughts, severe tingling, anxiety, muscle weakness, numbness, skin rash, mood or behavior changes, worsening asthma symptoms, and depression. The side effects mentioned have to be discussed with your doctor as soon as possible, as they may get only worse if not given proper attention. If you get such mild side effects as stomach pain, fever, nausea, headache, tooth pain, stuffy nose, mild rash, upset stomach, cough, heartburn, and diarrhea, there is no need to do anything about them – just wait for the symptoms to go away on their own, as this is what usually happens. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are supposed to talk to their health care provider before using this medication, as the health of their baby may be at risk if they use Singulair without consulting a health care professional. Do not give your medicine to other people, even if you think they will benefit from it, and keep it out of the reach of children.
